6.1.10 Choice of Text Editors

Starting with Version 18.9.0, Notenik has implemented a mechanism for allowing you to choose from a list of desired text editors.

File -> Add Editing App(s)

Rather than offering you all possible installed applications that might be capable of opening a selected note file, Notenik gives you an opportunity to select the editing apps you might wish to use.

This can be done using the File -> Add Editing App(s)… menu item.

After selecting this menu item, Notenik will prompt you to select a file or a folder.

If you select a folder (your primary Applications folder, for example), then Notenik will scan all of the apps within looking for a list of known “friendly” text editors.

This list currently includes the following:

If you wish to add a specific app, then you can do this by selecting that specific app, instead of selecting a folder.

There is no way to remove a specific app from the list. However, there is another File menu command to Clear Editing Apps, which will clear the list and allow you to start over.

The setup process should only need to be done once, or when adding (or removing) a new text editor to your list. From that point on, Notenik will save your desired list of editing apps as part of your persistent User Defaults.

Note -> Edit In

Once you have selected your desired editing apps, then you will see beneath the Note menu a new item named Edit In. This opens a submenu listing all of your selected editing apps. Pick any one of them to open the currently selected note in that app!

Contextual Menus Too

You will also see this new submenu from the Contextual (dropdown) menu available from the List tab and the optional Outline tab.
