6.8.6 Scan for Collections

The File -> Scan for Collections menu item will allow you to select a folder, and then search within that folder for all existing Notenik Collections contained within.

The resulting list of Collections will be shown in a new Collection window. Each Collection will appear as a Note within the results, with the following fields.

• Title – This will be the path to the Collection within the scanned folder, but with spaces before and after each / in order to make the path more readable.
• Tags – Either collection or project
• Link – A Notenik Custom URL capable of opening the Collection. This will be shown with a simplified scheme.

Although the resulting window will appear as if it were a Collection or a Project, the scan results will only be retained as long as the window is kept open, and no new INFO files will be written to disk anywhere.

A few important notes concerning this function.

• Notenik will only look for telltale file names and extensions indicating the presence of Notenik Collections and Projects during the scan; no Collections will actually be opened, and no files will be read. This means that the operation should be pretty speedy, but it also means that user-assigned Collection titles are not available to show in the results.

• The resulting pseudo-Collection can be searched just like a regular Collection, including the ability to Search & Filter the results; this can be a useful way to find a Collection whose exact name and/or location you may have forgotten or misremembered.

• Note lines within the scan results can also be dragged and dropped into any other Collection the user might have open. This can be a quick way to add a Notenik Link to a Collection found in the Scan to another Collection that is already open.
