5.13 Fields Used to Identify Various Kinds of Notes ↑
5.13.3 Rank
The word Rank can be used as both a label and a type.
A Collection is not expected to have more than one field of type rank.
A rank value consists of both a number (an integer) and an alphabetic label, separated by spaces and a hyphen.
The numeric portion of the value will be used for sorting.
A Rank field is useful when you wish to assign meaningful labels to your Notes, but also wish to independently control the sequence in which these labels appear.
You must make use of a Text Editor to edit the Collection Template File in order to add a Rank field to a Collection, and you must specify all allowable values for the field in your template entry.
Here’s an example of how you might do this:
Category: <rank: 1 - Foundational; 2 - Canonical; 3 - Topical; >
As always, be sure to Reload the Collection after making changes to the Collection template!
When editing a Note containing a Rank field, the user may type either the numeric portion or the alphabetic portion in order to select a value.
Note that beneath the Collection > Sort menu, you will find an option to sort a Collection by Rank + Seq + Title.
A Rank field may also be specified as a Sort field within Script Files.
The Take Text from Right Variable Modifier can be used to extract just the label portion of the field when creating a Merge Template.
